Tahoe City Farmers Market is BACK!

May 17, 2021

Tahoe City Farmers Market is BACK!  As of May 13, 2021 the farmers market is back and open every Thursday through the summer months at the local historic beach, Commons Beach located in Tahoe City.  The Tahoe City Farmers Market on Commons Beach is the most scenic market in the Sierra Nevada.

What is a farmers market exactly?  To be exact it is a physical retail marketplace intended to sell foods directly by farmers to consumers. Farmers' markets may be indoors or outdoors and typically consist of booths, tables or stands where farmers sell their produce, live animals and plants, and sometimes prepared foods and beverages.
These types of markets have been determined an essential and key component in preserving local and regional food production, which may become ever more critical as supply chains continue to be disrupted during this international emergency. Markets are modified to serve essential needs and conform to new public health guidelines.

FARMERS MARKET ADA ACCESSIBILITY NOTES

Commons Beach is ADA accessible from all access points.

Another fantastic community event not to be missed in historic Tahoe City. On the shores of Lake Tahoe at Commons Beach, the Tahoe City Downtown Association, Tahoe City Public Utility District and Foothill Farmers Market come together to offer visitors and residents access to California certified farm-fresh, fruits, vegetables, flowers, and more.

This annual event runs from May through October every Thursday afternoon in the Commons Beach parking lot in Downtown Tahoe City. While this is nothing new to most, this market is literally the most beautiful place you'll ever buy strawberries or try a flatbread with curry. Our market vendors get on a waiting list to be at the Tahoe City market and coupled with an afternoon exploring Downtown or lunch on the beach, it's a great way to spend the day in Tahoe City.

ECO-FRIENDLY NOTES

Each Thursday, throughout the summer, the Tahoe City Downtown Association has a booth at the Tahoe City Farmers Market promoting human-powered transportation through its year-long Pedal There Program. At the booth you'll find local bike path maps, bike bells for sale, surveys and commitment cards in which participants can sign up for email updates and pledge to ride their bikes all year long.

Background - The Tahoe City Pedal There program was created in 2007 to encourage cycling in and around the Downtown Tahoe City area. Pedal There was funded in 2010 by New Belgium Brewing and together with the Downtown Association, proudly promote cycling to and from the Tahoe City Farmers Market.

LOCALLY OR FAMILY OWNED BUSINESS NOTES

Several local and family owned businesses in the Downtown Tahoe City region participate as vendors in the event, including the local Cupcake shop from Lake Forest and a special edition the last two years - Le Petite Crepe with fresh crepes.
